What Colour Goes With Brown For A Bedroom?

holidays Kep Phnom Penh

Located at the Vietnamese border, on the edge of the Gulf of Thailand, Kep is a small resort at the beginning of the century abandoned during the war and who revived slowly. The city is dotted with villas overgrown after being destroyed by the fighting and looting.

In this season of monsoon activity is still slowing. Far from the crowd, we took advantage the beach under the coconut trees. Every morning the fishermen bring in quantities of crab ... what we have benefited greatly!

It's the holidays!

Asus Gate Installation Is Incomplete

We started our discovery of Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. Evacuated and neglected in 1975, the city is now rebuilding in the anarchy of the opening to capitalism. It is a mixture of colonial buildings dilapidated buildings and flashy. It crosses more than elsewhere, filthy street children and brand new 4x4 ...

For us, this step was also an opportunity to confront the reality of the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge . 30 years later, at a time when the Khmer Rouge appear responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, it is always good to recall some facts and figures:
- The Khmer Rouge came to power after almost 10 years guerrillas in Cambodia and bombed heavily weakened by the Americans (damage collaterals of the Vietnam War).
- After the occupation of Phnom Penh, April 17, 1975, its entire population was deported to the countryside.
- This reign of terror led to the summary execution of tens of thousands of people and the enslavement of the entire population will die of exhaustion, hunger and disease.
- The regime fell in 1979 after occupation by the Vietnamese.
- In less than 4 years, the figures most reasonable estimate that 2 million deaths attributable to diet, 25% of the population, including almost all of intellectuals (teachers, professors, engineers, doctors ...).

In Phnom Penh we visited the detention center at Tuol Sleng, or S-21, a former high school converted into a torture center led by the infamous Duch and Choeung Ek, mass graves, which were executed men, women and children "opponents" in the plan ... ...
images often unbearable hell This dive we also interviewed a lot. As always the face of such horrors, such absurdities of history, many questions and questions come to mind. A short blog post is probably not enough to go around.
This story seems incredibly recent (after all 30 years is nothing!) And the way we look on Cambodia can not be indifferent. To not stop there, we continue to read to understand the unimaginable ...

What Did Andy Sixx Do To His Hand?

A little further along the Mekong River ... Vientiane Luang Prabang

After 15 days of madness with Maïwenn and Olivier, we needed a little rest ... C That is what we found on the banks of the Mekong River at South. Here, the Mekong is being squeezed between the hills, but extends and extends freely through the vast plains of rice fields.

We enjoyed the places of Francis (the other brother Pascal) tested a few months earlier (Francis, we followed your mark on the records of guesthouses!).

Step in Champasak to visit in the rain, the fabulous pre-Angkorian ruins of Wat Phou. The site is very much the idea that one can make the temple lost in the jungle and eaten by the foam. The atmosphere is perfect for us who reread Malraux. If the initial structure is that of a Hindu temple in the sixth century, the ruins visible today date from the eleventh century. Pre-Angkor it seems that the temple has been maintained and used by the Khmer until the end of their empire.

We continued to the region "4000 islands" on the Cambodian border. For the record, here is off the Mekong rapids impassable making navigation impossible. In the late nineteenth century, the French had the idea to circumvent this problem by building a railway track and a bridge to link the two islands on either side of the rapids. This project would have facilitated trade to the North. The bridge is still there ... the train too, but never rolled.

On these islands, Don Det and Don Khone, not much to do ... Wandering by bicycle between the rice fields, buffaloes and avoid napping enjoying the sound of water. It was great!

Engagement Cardfor Best Friend Wording

We said goodbye to Maïwenn and Olivier in Vientiane. We had fun during these two weeks of traveling with them. It was nice to see the end of the world!

Our roads are repaired: they re-crossed the Mekong to Thailand as we continue to follow it southbound.
